Mike Alvarado defeated Brandon Rios by a 12 round unamimous decision on Saturday night in a rematch at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The judges scored it 115-113, 115-113 and 114-113.

Rios (31-1-1) started well putting Alvarado (34-1) under pressure and staggering him with a hard jab in the 2nd round with

Alvarado able to hold onto Rios long enough to clear his head. Rios landing several big shots before the round came to a close, that Alvarado took well and managed to stay upright. From then on Alvarado seemed to take control of the fight with his movement and appeared to hurt Rios with big right hands in the 3rd and the 8th rounds.

The fight was not as dramatic as the first fight, which Rios won by stopping Alvarado in 7 rounds in October, but was still thrilling at times.

Alvarado was again more then willing to trade with Rios but began boxing more in the middle rounds, a change in strategy that may have won  him the fight. Rios expended a lot of energy chasing him and was not able to land as many big punches as in the first fight.

"Brandon gave me a shot to redeem myself, I'll give him a shot for the trilogy," said the victorious Alvarado after the fight.
