Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) will fight former WBO light-welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs) on May 29 at the Barclays Center in New York.

Khan, who is a former WBA and IBF light welterweight champion, was aiming to take on Floyd Mayweather or former stable mate Manny Pacquiao but the pair agreed to fight each other in an eagerly-awaited superfight on May 2.

The Briton dominated Devon Alexander on the way to a unanimous decision victory in December in his last outing, and now faces Algieri, who will be looking to get back to winning ways after he was handed the sole defeat of his career by Pacquiao.

Algieri was floored six times before losing a one-sided decision when challenging for the WBO welterweight title in Macau in November.

The American will be returning to the venue of his biggest win, when he outpointed Ruslan Provodnikov in June last year to capture the WBO belt.

He was stripped of the belt when he opted to challenge Pacquiao above his weight class.

Khan said : "I have happy memories of New York having made my successful US debut there against Paulie Malignaggi in 2010.

"I'm delighted to now be fighting there once again against another champion in Chris Algieri.

“Algieri has shared the ring with some tremendous fighters and shown great skills in those fights so I know I will need to be at my very best when we meet.”

Algieri said: "I am very excited to get back into the ring and to be fighting here in New York.
"Fighting at Barclays Center, where I won my world title just under a year ago, is an added bonus.
“Amir Khan is a tested champion and is the match-up that I wanted. I believe this is a fight that will bring the best out of me."
