Badou Jack-George Groves world title bout likely for Mayweather undercard

George Groves' world title challenge against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack on August 22 in Las Vegas has been postponed, but it looks likely to take place on September 12 on the undercard of pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather's next fight.

Although there is no official new date, with neither fighter injured, it’s possible that the bout is simply being pushed back three weeks to be part of the Mayweather card.

The Jack-Groves fight will be screened in America on Showtime, who have confirmed it will not take place on the original date.

"Showtime doesn’t have a live boxing event on August 22," said Chris DeBlastio, Showtime’s vice president of sports communications.
"We had contemplated doing it (on that date), but it didn't materialise."

Team Sauerland, who promotes Groves, and Mayweather Promotions, who promotes Jack, made a deal a couple of months ago for the bout and have the option of including it to the undercard for Mayweather's final fight, which is scheduled to be at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather attempts to match Rocky Marciano’s undefeated record of 49-0. Former two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto is expected to be chosen to get the fight, even though he hasn't done anything notable in boxing for several years and is considered a faded fighter.

However, no opponent has yet been announced.
