Adrien “The Problem” Broner (29-1, 22 KOs) defeated Emmanuel Taylor (18-3, 12 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the U.S Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Broner won as expected, but had to battle hard. The fight was very close with many rounds hard to pick a winner in. Broner landed the cleaner shots but Taylor never wavered from his plan to press forward.
Taylor did well in the 10th and 11th rounds and Broner sustained a cut over his right eye, but the hometown favourite sealed the victory in the 12th by knocking down Taylor with a hard left hook.
The judges’ scores were 115-112, 116-111, and 116-111.
Broner stated after the fight that he wants to fight Lucas Matthysse (36-3, 34 KOs).
“If it was up to me I’d fight him [Matthysee] tonight,” Broner said.
Also on the card, Matthysse stopped Mexican Roberto Ortiz (31-1-1, 24 KOs) in the second round.
The Argentine banger knocked Ortiz down with a hard left to the body. Ortiz appeared to beat the count, but referee Benjy Esteves Jr. stopped the fight at the count of 9 anyway.
The fight was officially halted at 2:45 of the round.
Matthysse claimed the WBC silver light welterweight title.
