Charlo hammers Campfort to retain IBF belt
IBF light middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (23-0, 18 KOs) easily halted challenger Wilky Campfort (21-2, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas.
Charlo scored three knockdowns on the way to a fourth round TKO victory.
The unbeaten American used his size and reach advantage to control Campfort from the start.
Charlo floored his Haiti-born opponent with a solid right hand in the second round. Then a barrage of punches forced Campfort to the canvas for a second time in the following round.
Charlo put Campfort down again with more hard shots in the fourth and although the challenger beat the count, he was cut and unable to see out of his right eye, and the referee stopped the fight at 1:16 of the round.
Also on the card, welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr (19-0, 16 KOs) stopped Mexico's Alejandro Barrera (28-3, 18 KOs).
The 2012 US Olympian scored two knockdowns before the referee waved off the bout at 1:46 of the fifth round.
