Chavez Jr vs Vera on August 3

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (46-1-1)  will meet Brian Vera (23-6) on August 3 in a venue still to be determined. The fight will be at a catch-weight of around 165 lbs.

Chavez Jr has plans to move up to super middleweight and will use this fight as a way of settling in and to see how he does at the weight.

Whether he struggles or not, Chavez Jr is going to have to make the move to 168 or 175 in the near future because getting down from the 190s to get to 160 has got to be an incredibly difficult ordeal for Chavez Jr.

The 31-year-old Vera is an ideal opponent for the Mexican's brawling style. Chavez Jr's team had recently decided not to face British middleweight contender Darren Barker, who has good boxing skills in addition to his excellent power compared to Vera, a slugger who doesn't have the ability to box even if he wanted to.

Vera has good power and he's also a fighter that tends to put on alot of weight after he rehydrates. However, he's not going to be nearly as heavy as Chavez Jr. Vera does well against fighters that slug with him, so he should be in his element against Chavez Jr.
