Crawford finishes off Lundy in five
WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (28-0, 20 KOs) halted challenger Hank Lundy (26-6-1, 13 KOs) in the fifth round on Saturday night at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Crawford, who retained his WBO title for the second time, dropped fellow American Lundy with a right hand before a series of hard shots forced referee Steve Willis to step in and stop the fight.
Lundy made a good start and landed a solid right hand to the head in the opening round, but Crawford took it well and soon started dominating the action.
Crawford took charge of the fight with his right jab after switching to a southpaw stance. He also began landing hard shots and sent Lundy to the canvas in the fifth.
Lundy beat the count, but he was clearly hurt, and Crawford unloaded a barrage of punches until Willis intervened at 2:09 of the round.
Crawford won the belt when he dominated Thomas Dulorme en route to a sixth round stoppage last April, and then he stopped Dierry Jean in the 10th round of his first title defence in October.
Crawford's next fight could be against Ruslan Provodnikov in June, followed by a unification fight with WBC champion Viktor Postol later in the year.
