Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KOs) has vacated his WBC light welterweight title.
Garcia, 27, who has not defended his WBA and WBC 140lb titles since March 2014 after two consecutive bouts fought at a catchweight, decided to relinquish his world title rather than face mandatory challenger Viktor Postol next and move up in weight to welterweight. He is now planning to fight former world champion Paulie Malignaggi on August 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Lucas Matthysse and Postol will fight for the vacant belt.
The unbeaten American is also expected to vacate the WBA belt.
