Haye hammers Gjergjaj inside two rounds

British heavyweight David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) easily halted previously unbeaten Swiss Arnold Gjergjaj (29-1, 21 KOs) inside two rounds on Saturday night at The O2 Arena in London.
Haye, a former heavyweight and cruiserweight world champion, floored the visitor with a big right after only 34 seconds.
Kosovo-born Gjergjaj, who resides in Switzerland, was down again at the end of the round, but the punch came after the bell had sounded and it wasn’t counted as a knockdown.
However, 35-year-old Haye dropped Gjergjaj in the second round with a jab and then put him down for a fourth time with a barrage of punches, prompting referee Terry O’Connor to wave it off at 1:35.
Haye is now aiming for world title fights with fellow Britons Anthony Joshua (IBF) and Tyson Fury (WBA and WBO), as well as American Deontay Wilder (WBC), but next, he is set to face former world champion Shannon Briggs (60-6-1, 52 KOs), who knocked out late sub Emilio Zarate (20-17-3, 11 KOs) in the first round on the O2 undercard to set up a September showdown.
American Briggs, now 44, dropped overmatched Argentine Zarate twice, finishing him with a punishing left hook to the body at 2:22 of the round.
Haye said: "A lot of people thought I'm the past but I'm looking forward to big fights next year against the likes of Anthony Joshua.
"I would relish that fight and the people want to see that fight but next up for me is Shannon Briggs. He came over to England and talked a big game.
"I told him if he came over and beat someone I would fight him in September."
