Haye targets talkative Tyson Fury

David Haye wants to shut up talkative Tyson Fury in a heavyweight showdown this year.

Haye (26-2) has previously stated that he has no interest in facing unbeaten Fury (21-0), claiming he is not on his radar however it seems things have changed.

It could be Fury's poor performance in beating Steve Cunningham on Saturday in New York has changed his mind about not wanting to fight him.

Also former world champion Haye, 32, has been the target of fierce abuse from Fury, who insists he will punch him into permandent retirement.

Now manager Adam Booth admits the Hayemaker would love the chance to silence Fury and end his 21-fight unbeaten record.

Booth said "David against Fury is the most natural heavyweight fight out there. It is the most logical high-profile fight in Great Britain, if not the world right now. Both fighters are entertainers. Fury is doing a great job inside and outside the ring and David is a two-weight world champion. His celebrity status has never been higher and importantly both have a top-10 ranking.

It would be a huge event anywhere in the country. it wouldn't matter if it was London or at a Manchester football stadium - it would be massive. I am waiting to make contact with Fury's promoter to see if the interest expressed in some of his comments are genuine or just hot air from a young fighter."

Haye is due to make his comeback at the Manchester Arena on June 29 after a year out of the ring since knocking out Dereck Chisora in 5 rounds.

He will name his next opponent next week and if he is successful, wants to negotiate an autumn bout with Fury.

Booth added "We are ready to reveal David's next opponent very soon and contracts are being finalised but anything can happen in boxing.  I've read Fury wants the fight. He says he can knock out David, so let's see if we can make it happen."

It doesn't take a genius to see why Haye and Booth have had a change of heart about wanting to fight Fury. All you have to do is watch how vulnerable Fury looked against Cunningham to know he is clearly there for someone like Haye to destroy.

With Fury set to fight Kubrat Pulev next, Haye and Booth might not get to him in time if Pulev does a number on Fury in their IBF final eliminator.
