Inoue outpoints Carmona to retain WBO title

WBO super flyweight champion Naoya Inoue (10-0, 8 KOs) retained his title with a 12 round unanimous decision over David Carmona (17-2-4, 6 KOs) on Sunday night at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan.

The Japanese fighter floored Carmona in the 12th round on the way to winning by scores of 118-109, 118-109 and 116-111.

Inoue rocked the Mexican in the first and continued to land hard shots in the following rounds.

Carmona showed his toughness by covering himself up with both hands and attempted to fight back gamely.

Inoue kept jabbing and landing  punches to the head and body before dropping Carmona with a solid a combination in the final seconds of the fight.

However the challenger got up and survived the follow-up assault to last the distance.

Also on the card, Japan's three-time world champion Akira Yaegashi (24-5, 12 KOs) outpointed Mexico's Martin Tecuapetla (23-5, 15 KOs) to retain his IBF light flyweight title.

The challenger was busier in the early rounds, before Yaegashi took over the fight with his harder punches to win a split decision by scores of 115-113 and 116-113, with the third judge scoring it 115-113 for Tecuapetla.
