Jermain Taylor Vs Sergio Mora is off
IBF middleweight champion Jermain Taylor’s title defence against Sergio Mora is off.
Taylor has been detained and questioned for discharging a firearm in Little Rock, Arkansas on Monday afternoon.
The 36-year-old Taylor is being charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and possession of Marijuana. He stepped out of a vehicle and was handcuffed by the police.
The police were said to have removed a firearm from Taylor’s vehicle.
Taylor was scheduled to face Mora on February 6 at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, in Biloxi, Mississippi. However, promoter Lou DiBella confirmed Taylor suffered a rib injury during a sparring session on Saturday. X-rays were taken and Taylor was going to be removed from the fight with Mora for those reasons in addition to Monday’s arrest.
Taylor was already facing legal issues stemming from an incident at his home in August when he allegedly shot his cousin during an altercation.
He was charged with first-degree battery and first-degree terroristic threatening, and faces up to 26 years in prison if convicted.
It is still unknown whether or not the IBF will strip Taylor of the title he won by defeating Sam Soliman by unanimous decision in October.
