Kevin Mitchell returns July 6

Kevin Mitchell (33-2) returns to the ring on July 6 when he headlines against an unnamed opponent on the Prizefighter light welterweights lll card promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, at the York Hall, Bethnal Green. Live on Sky Sports.

Mitchell, 28, hopes to land another world title shot after he failed in his attempt to take the WBO lightweight belt from Ricky Burns, suffering a fourth round stoppage defeat in his last outing in September.

This was the second time that Mitchell had been blasted out when he tried stepping up from the European level to world class. In 2010, Michael Katsidis blow away Mitchell in just three rounds in London. Mitchell was the home fighter, but Katsidis didn't even give his fans time to cheer before overwhelming him with shots and forcing a stoppage.

Mitchell is not short of domestic rivals and relishes the chance to take on the likes of Gavin Rees, Anthony Crolla and Derry Mathews as he works towards another crack at the world crown.

"It's great to get back to action," said Mitchell. "It's a new chapter in my life and I'm so excited to be back at the York Hall. There are some massive domestic battles out there for me later this year and I'm looking for a world title shot in 2014."
