WBA light middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (22-2-2, 13 KOs) stopped Slovenian Jan Zaveck (35-4, 19 KOs) in the third round on Wednesday night at Hialeah Park Racing & Casino in Miami, Florida.

Lara dominated the former IBF welterweight champion throughout and was landing hard shots from the start.

The Cuba connected with a straight left hand to the head in the third round, and then followed up with a combination as Zaveck turned his back.

Then the referee stopped the fight at 0:41 of the round with Zaveck too hurt to continue.

After the fight, Zaveck claimed he was punched in the neck before the stoppage.

Lara has now won his last three fights since he lost a controversial decision to Canelo Alvarez in July 2014 and looks set to move up in weight to the middleweight division for bigger fights in 2016.

"Canelo doesn't want to see me because he knows I beat him in the first fight," said Lara. "And GGG (Gennady Golovkin) can come get it if he wants as well. I'm ready to fight anybody at 154 to 160 pounds. Bring on the best."
