Miguel Cotto to return to the ring aganist James Kirkland on February 25
Four-weight world Champion Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) will return to the ring when he takes on American puncher James Kirkland (32-2, 28 KOs) at February 25 at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Both men are coming off losses to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and will be looking to revive their careers in the scheduled 12-round light middleweight bout.
Puerto Rico's Cotto lost his WBC middleweight title to the Mexican by unanimous decision in November 2015, while Kirkland was knocked out by Canelo inside three rounds earlier that same year.
Cotto said: "I’m excited to return to the ring and put on a great show. I can’t wait to start training camp and get ready for February 25."
Kirkland said: "I’m very excited to get back into the ring against a legend like Miguel Cotto. I’m going to train like never before so I can show the world that the old James Kirkland is back."
