Unbeaten British contender Callum Smith (19-0, 14 KOs) demolished Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-4-1, 15 KOs) in the first round to win the  European super middleweight title on Saturday night  at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

The 25-year-old Liverpudlian claimed a stunning stoppage victory over defending champion Mohoumadi, who had never previously been stopped, following a barrage of unanswered punches in the first round.

The fight was also a WBC eliminator, so Smith is now the WBC mandatory challenger to champion Badou Jack.

Mohoumadi came out firing, pinning Smith in the corner and landed some solid punches but Smith responded and soon had the Frenchman in trouble.

The two went toe to toe but Mohoumadi's wild hooks left him wide open and Smith connected with a series of hard shots which pinned his opponent on the ropes.

Smith was landing with both hands to head and body and the referee stopped the fight at 1:41 of the round.

"I prepared for a tough fight," said Smith. "He'd never been stopped so I had respect for him. I'm hitting hard and getting bigger and bigger. I feel I'm improving so bring on who's next."
