WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs) stopped overmatched American challenger Tommy Karpency (25-4-1, 14 KOs) in the third round on Friday night at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.

Canada's Stevenson, who was defending his title for the sixth time, dominated the action from the start, landing hard shots in the opening round.

Karpency came back with his own punches in the second, but a left hand staggered him at the end of the round before he was sent to the canvas by the follow up punches.

He got up but he never recovered and was soon down again at the start of the third from another Stevenson assault and the referee stopped the bout at 0:21 of the round.

Stevenson called out IBF/WBA/WBO champion Sergey Kovalev after the fight.

"Kovalev, you are easy work," he said. "It's time now that we unify the title."

Also on the card, welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr (18-0, 15 KOs) defeated South African Chris van Heerden (23-2-1, 12 KOs) by a 8th round stoppage.

The unbeaten American dropped his opponent twice in the 7th before the referee’s stoppage at the start of the 8th following a barrage of punches.

Canadian heavyweight champion Dillon Carman (9-2, 8 KOs) knocked out former world title challenger Donovan "Razor" Ruddock (40-6-1, 30 KOs) in the third round to retain his title.

Ruddock, who is trying to make a comeback at age 51, had won his last two fights since previously retiring in 2001.
