Ceja won't expect me to be as good as I am, says McDonnell

Jamie McDonnell (20-2-1) gets his big chance on home soil at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday night against Mexican banger Julio Ceja (24-0), for the vacant IBF bantamweight title, in his push to become Doncater's first world champion.

The 27-year-old McDonnell, who has 9 stoppages in his 22 fight career that includes 2 defeats, goes into the fight a underdog but the former British, Commonwealth and European champion has no doubt he will be the one with his arm held aloft come Saturday night.

"I am 100 per cent confident in this fight," said McDonnell. "Training has been the best ever. I've had a solid ten week camp and we have nailed everything. We have worked on a game plan and if I stick to that then I'm sure I will be victorious on the night. I'm tall and rangy for my weight and I plan to take advantage of that. He will probably expect me to keep it at long range but he won't expect me to be as good as I am."

Ceja boasts 22 knockouts in his 24 fights but Ceja says he never goes looking for the knockout in fights.

He said "The hard punch is an advantage but I never fight looking for the KO. I like to start boxing, throwing punches, some waist movements. I'll never underestimate any opponent but once I feel I've hurt them. I go in."

Promoter Dennis Hobson has secured a TV deal with PPV channel Primetime which will allow fans to purchase the card for £10.95. The undercard will feature Darlington's Stuart Hall (14-2-1) vs US-based Sergio 'Time to shine' Perales (22-1), Dronfield middleweight Lewis Taylor (8-0) and exciting heavyweight propects Dave 'White Rhino' Allen (3-0) and Carl Spencer (2-0).
