Klitschko-Povetkin in jeopardy over drug testing

The October 5 fight between Wladimir Klitschko (60-3) and Alexander Povetkin (26-0) is in jeopardy due to the two heavyweights unable to agree over the issue of drug testing.

The WBO/IBF/IBO and WBA 'super'champion Klitschko may pull out of fighting WBA 'regular' champion Povetkin, the Ukrainian's manager has warned.

Klitschko wants the German National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) to conduct the testing, Povetkin, meanwhile, wants to use a Russian agency - and Klitschko's manager Bernd Boente has confirmed that the disagreement may result in the bout being called off altogether.

He said "There are still huge gaps in the contracts, not only in terms of the drug testing. Better safe then sorry. I've already seen too much in this business."

The fight has been funded by Russian promoter Vladimir Hryunov, who won the purse bid to stage the long-awaited clash in Moscow with a staggering 18m euros.

Klitschko, 37, is entitled to 75 percent, which would give him a career-high of 13.3m euros purse, while Povetkin, 33, should receive 4.4m euros.

The two former Olympic champions were due to clash twice before but the Russian pulled out in 2008 because of injury and then backed out a second time in 2010.
