Using heavy pressure and good body attacks Victor Terrazas (37-2-1) defeated former IBF/WBA/WBC flyweight champion Cristian Mijares (47-7-2) by a 12 round split decision on Saturday night to capture the vacant WBC super bantamweight title at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, in Mexico City, Mexico.

The final Judges scores were 114-113, 115-112 for Terrazas and 114-113 for Mijares.

Terrazas suffered cuts in both round 5 from a head-butt and round 10 from a hard left hand before being knocked down by another solid left from Mijaresin the 12th.

For the first four rounds Mijares controlled the action. However, starting in the fifth round, Terrazas started taking the fight to fellow Mexican Mijares and was punishing him with hard body shots.

With the victory Terrazas, 30, captures the WBC title that was recently vacated by Abner Mares.
