Gavin plans to bamboozle Vassell with boxing science

British welterweight champion Frankie Gavin (15-0) reckons his fast hands will be too much for Commonwealth champion Denton Vassell (20-0) when the pair meet this friday at the Olympia in Liverpool, live on BoxNation.

"Boxing's about hitting and not getting him, I'm not going to take one just to land one on Vassell. I can beat him with speed, angles and counter-punching and I'll bamboozle him with boxing science," said Gavin.

"I'm looking forward to the fight, it's a real test against another undefeated British fighter with a title that will push me onto the next level in my career."

The southpaw from Birmingham is the former world amateur champion and is said to be in lean, mean shape for the biggest fight of his career.

Gavin's last two fights were against Junior Witter last November to claim the British title and then followed that with a successful defence against Jason Welborn in January.

Vassell, from Machester is looking to extend his three-year reign as Commonwealth champion, while ripping the British strap from Gavin. Vassell claimed the vacant title in April 2010 with a UD points win over Lee Purdy and, has made three successful defences against Bethuel Ushona, Samuel Columbian and then following a long period of inactivity he stopped Ronnie Heffron in November last year in his last outing.

"People are saying it'll be Frankie's speed against my power, but I say expect the unexpected," said Vassell.

"The boxing ring is my realm, my world, my house - I'm here to fight. All I will say is Frankie can run he can't hide. There'll be a fight and one will come out a winner. Me."
