WBA featherweight champion Chris John looks set to fight IBO champion Simpiwe Vetyeka in a unification fight.

Vetyeka, 27, recently won his second IBO title stopping David Cino Yordan in the 12th round in Jakarta, which looks to have earned the South African an opportunity to fight Indonesian John, trainer Nick Durandt revealed.

"The promoters were so impressed with Vetyeka that they approched me and raised the possibility of a unification bout," Durandt said.

"If this materialises, it will undoubtedly be the high point of Simpiwe's career, not only because of the big money that would be involved, but also because he would have an opportunity at winning a WBA title, something that no South African has done for a long time."

John, 33, the longest reigning world champion in the world, has held the WBA strap for more then 10 years. He maintained his unbeaten record when his fight against Satoshi Hosono of Japan ended in a tehnical draw earlier this month.

The fight was stopped when a head-butt left John with a deep cut over his right eye in the third round.
