WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) scored a 8th round stoppage over former champion Luis Collazo (36-7, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida.

Thurman dominated the fight although Collazo had his moments before the bout was stopped at the start of the 8th.

Home fighter Thurman started strongly and rocked the southpaw challenger with big shots. But Collazo fired back with a brutal body shot in the fifth and Thurman was visibly hurt.

The New Yorker tried to keep the pressure on but Thurman kept out of trouble and soon regained control. Thurman was landing the cleaner shots and Collazo was cut badly above the right eye.

While he was sat on his stool after the 7th, Collazo told his team he couldn’t see out of the eye and the fight was stopped.

Following his victory, Thurman called out pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather.

"I'm a young, strong champion, Floyd. Come get it," said Thurman. "I'm undefeated like you, baby. Come take my 0 baby! Come take my 0! I'm ready. I'm ready."
