Trojanowski stops Cuenca in rematch
IBF light welterweight champion Edward Trojanowski (24-0, 21 KOs) stopped former champion Cesar Cuenca (48-2, 2 KOs) in the 7th round of their rematch on Friday night at the Krylia Sovetov in Moscow, Russia.
Cuenca showed good movement and footwork but Troyanovsky soon started landing some heavy blows and bloodied Cuenca’s nose in the third round.
The Russian continued to land hard shots and dropped Cuenca with a right hand in the 4th. Cuenca recovered and fought back before a uppercut from Troyanovsky in the 6th dropped him for the second time.
Then the Argentine’s corner ended the fight in the 7th with their fighter taking a lot of punishment.
Troyanovsky, who was making his first title defence, dethroned Cuenca by a 6th round TKO in November. It was a controversial finish when both fighters got tangled up before Cuenca landed hard on the canvas.
Cuenca entered the first fight attempting to equal Floyd Mayweather Jr and Rocky Marciano at 49-0.
