Vasyl Lomachenko to challenge Roman Martinez on June 11
WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KOs) will move up in weight and challenge WBO super featherweight champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez (29-2-3, 17 KOs) on June 11 at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko challenged for a world title in only his second pro fight, but lost on points to Orlando Salido in 2014. However, Salido had failed to make weight before the fight and was stripped of the WBO belt.
Lomachenko won the vacant title in his next fight with a dominant points victory over Gary Russell Jr.
The Ukrainian has made three successful defences, and now in his seventh pro fight, Lomachenko will aim to become a two-weight world champion.
Puerto Rico's Martinez won the belt with a points win over Salido in a slugfest last April and then fought to a draw with him in the September rematch in another exciting fight.
