Warrington wins one-sided points victory over Dennis Tubieron
Unbeaten British featherweight Josh Warrington (21-0, 4 KOs) defeated Filipino Dennis Tubieron (19-4-2, 8 KOs) by a unanimous decision in a WBC featherweight world title eliminator on Saturday night at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
The Leeds man outgunned the game visitor and was awarded the win by scores of 119-109, 119-110 and 119-109.
Warrington came out firing from the start, driving his opponent backwards as he searched for an early finish with a stream of spiteful punches to head and boby, but Tubieron showed his toughness and came back with shots of his own.
Warrington went to work with more sustained attacks as the fight progressed, but he could not land a punch to end the contest and had to settle for a points victory.
With the win, the European, Commonwealth and British champion Warrington, also landed the WBC international featherweight title.
A clash with WBC champion Gary Russell Jr still looks a way off but a domestic fight against Lee Selby is a possibility.
