Uchiyama halts Chuwatana in two
WBA super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama (23-0-1, 19 KOs) stopped previously unbeaten Jomthong Chuwatana (9-1, 4 KOs) in the second round on Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan.
Japan's Uchiyama, who was making his 10th world title defence, went on the attack from the opening round, pinning the Thai challenger to the ropes with a flurry of punches. Chuwatana attempted to fight back with his own power shots until Uchiyama landed a vicious right hand that dropped Jomthong hard on the canvas. The referee didn't need to count and halted the bout at 1:15 of the second round.
Also on the card, WBA light flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (22-2-1, 9 KOs) of Japan defeated former world champion Kwanthai Sithmorseng (49-4-1, 26 KOs) of Thailand by an 8th round stoppage.
Taguchi dropped Sithmorseng five times before the bout was halted at 0:36 of the 8th round.
